Missed connection insurance

What is a rescheduled flight?

A flight schedule change or rescheduled flight is defined as any involuntary, planned modification made by the airline to a booked itinerary prior to the originally scheduled departure time. This includes, but is not limited to, changes in departure or arrival times, flight numbers, routing or connecting airports, operating carrier, cabin class, or a change in the origin or destination airport.

How do I get help or more information?

Easy! Drop us a message via Live Chat or Email.

Where can I see my full insurance policy terms?

It’s simple, just go to your app or Customer Dashboard and check our Terms and Conditions to read all about your Missed connection insurance.

Does missed connection insurance cover other travel disruptions?

No. It covers missed connections only. For other travel disruptions such as flight delays, cancellations, and luggage problems, we have other insurance options such as flight insurance and luggage insurance. Just check what’s included in your AirHelp+ plan!

My airline rebooked my flight for free, can I still get my missed connection insurance payout?

Yes! As long as you meet the policy’s eligibility requirements, you can get your payout.

Are there any deadlines or time limits I need to know about?

Yes. Here’s what you need to remember:

  • Add your trip — Make sure to add your trips at least 48 hours before your flight’s scheduled departure.

  • Submit your insurance claim — You’ll need to fill out your insurance claim form within 28 days of missing your connection.

If you miss these deadlines, sorry, but we won’t qualify for payout.

I booked a trip with connections on an airline or travel agent. Some of my flights on my itinerary were canceled and I was given a completely new itinerary. I traveled on my new itinerary with no problems. Can I still get a payout under my missed connection insurance?

No. You’re only covered if you end up missing your connecting flight. If you managed to board all your flights and reached your destination on your new itinerary, you won’t qualify for a payout.

However, if you missed your connection on your new itinerary and meet all other eligibility requirements, you could get a payout. If in doubt, we’ll check it for you!

Can I get a missed connection insurance payout if my flight was changed in advance?

No. We only cover last-minute disruptions that caused you to miss your connecting flight on the day of your trip.

If your flight was delayed, cancelled, or diverted more than 48 hours before departure, you're not eligible for payout under missed connection insurance as you should have had enough time to adjust your plans. However, for such disruptions, there are cases where it might qualify under a different insurance benefit, such as flight disruption insurance.

What if I missed a connection and took another mode of transport to my final destination, or flew to a different destination altogether? Can I still get a payout?

Unfortunately, no. To qualify for missed connection insurance, you must:

  • Travel with a replacement flight — Your airline must provide you with a new flight to your destination. Other modes of transport such as cars, trains, boats, and buses are not covered.

  • Fly to the destination on your original booking — If the replacement flight you took landed at a different destination, you’re no longer covered.

How do I file a claim if I miss my connection?

It’s easy! Just follow the instructions on your Customer Dashboard.

  1. Let us know right away — you need to submit your claim within 28 days of the date you had your missed connection.

  2. Fill out the online claim form. Hint: It’s in your Customer Dashboard under the insurance section of your trip!

  3. Add your documents

    • Booking confirmation or original flight itinerary.

    • Proof of your replacement flight (e.g. a new boarding pass or replacement booking confirmation).

    • Passport or ID.

    • Any airline communication about your delay or booking, such as emails.

  4. Wait for confirmation — We’ll let you know the status of your claim as soon as it’s reviewed by our insurance partner! If approved, we’ll send you your payout.

In which situations will I not get a missed connection insurance payout?

Here are some cases where you won’t be covered by your missed connection insurance:

  • You missed the connection by mistake — like oversleeping or arriving late to the airport on your own.

  • Your flights weren’t booked together under one reservation, such as in the case of self-connecting flights.

  • You registered your trip less than 48 hours before your first flight.

  • If there is a strike or other disruption that lasts longer than 7 days and hasn’t been publicly announced when you registered your the trip on the Customer Dashboard — we only cover the first 7 days.

If your flight gets rescheduled, your coverage is removed from the old itinerary and is transferred to the rescheduled itinerary. If the reschedule happens more than 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the trip, be sure to delete your old trip from the Customer Dashboard and register a new trip with the rescheduled flight details to stay covered.

If you miss a connecting flight on this rescheduled itinerary, your missed connection insurance will apply.

If the rescheduled flight happened less than 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the trip and you were unable to register it on your Customer Dashboard, don’t worry—you can file a claim on your old trip and simply let us know about the rescheduled flights.

  • You’re flying to or from an excluded destination such as conflict zones or sanctioned countries.

  • Your flight is affected by a public health emergency, for example, like a pandemic, or an announced strike that was happening when you booked or registered your flight.

  • You choose not to continue your trip after missing your connection.

For more detailed information, be sure you check Terms and Conditions on your AirHelp+ Customer Dashboard.

What is a missed connection?

A missed connection is when you have two or more flights booked together and something goes wrong with your first flight — like it’s delayed, canceled, or diverted — and because of that, you don’t make it in time to catch your next flight.

For example: Let’s say you’re flying from New York to Paris, with a layover in London.

If your flight from New York to London is late and you miss your London to Paris flight — that’s a missed connection.

Your missed connection insurance only protects flights that are all part of one booking — not separate tickets.

When does the missed connections protection for my trip start and stop?

Your trip protection covers you from the start of your journey to the very end.

You’re protected from the day your first flight is supposed to take off — but only if you already told us about your trip 48 hours before.

It ends when you get to the last stop on your trip — your final destination!

The number of trips covered depends on the plan chosen. Missed connections insurance only covers trips taken during the duration of your AirHelp+ membership.

How much does missed connection insurance cost?

The cost is already included in your AirHelp+ plan! There’s no separate charge and no additional fees when you submit an insurance claim for a missed connection.

Who can get missed connection insurance?

Anyone who’s an AirHelp+ member!

You’re covered if:

  • You have an active AirHelp+ plan that includes missed connection coverage.

  • You’ve added your trips to the app or Customer Dashboard at least 48 hours before your scheduled departure.

  • You’ve booked connecting flights on a single flight itinerary. This means that only flights that appear on the same booking confirmation from the airline or travel agent are covered by insurance. If you booked flights separately, such as on self-connecting flights, coverage won’t apply.

How long does it take to get my missed connection insurance payout?

It’s quick! Once you’ve shared the details of your missed connection, provided proof of the delay, and sent in your boarding passes, we’ll prepare your payout. It should be with you within hours.

In which situations will I get a payout if I have missed connection insurance?

If you’ve protected your trip with missed connection insurance, you’ll receive a one-time €200 payout when:

  • A flight delay, cancellation, or diversion causes you to miss your connection.

  • Both flights are part of the same booking.

  • You arrive at your final destination later than scheduled.

Does missed connection insurance cover all flights on my trip?

Yes, as long as the flights are part of the same trip and you've added them in the app or Customer Dashboard at least 48 hours before your scheduled departure.

However, there’s a limit of one €200 payout per trip. So even when you miss multiple connecting flights within the same trip, you’ll only be eligible for one payout.

How do I buy missed connection insurance?

AirHelp+ members get missed connection insurance bundled into their subscription. It’s not currently sold separately.

Missed connection insurance will protect all trips registered on your Customer Dashboard for the duration of the membership.

The number of trips covered by missed connection insurance varies according to the plan chosen.

What’s missed connection insurance?

It’s peace of mind when you miss your connecting flight.

First add your flights to AirHelp+ (minimum 48 hours before departure) so we can track them. When your first flight is delayed, canceled, or diverted, and you miss a connection, we’ll give you a fast €200 payout to help with the hassle.

Just send us your flight details, a proof of the delay, and your boarding passes, and your payout will be on the way.

Heads up: your flights must be part of the same booking to qualify for this insurance.
