Over 1 million travelers fly with the AirHelp app — here’s why, and what’s next

Something big just happened. More than 1 million travelers have now downloaded the AirHelp app — the free app for flight tracking, destination tips, and flight protection, that also tells you when your disruption owes you money. That’s a million people who’d rather know exactly what’s happening with their flight than stare at a departures board and hope for the best.
A million downloads isn’t just a nice round number for us. It’s a million travelers who now fly with more certainty, and who trust us to have their back when a trip doesn’t go to plan. Here’s what makes the app worth downloading, what’s new, and what’s coming next — with a way for you to help shape it. 👀
Most flight trackers tell you when your plane lands. AirHelp tells you that — then keeps going. ✈
The headline number is 1 million downloads — but it’s the activity behind it that tells the story. Travelers have run over 5 million flight searches in the app, looking up airlines, airports and flight numbers. They can track any flight, as many as they like, for free — no limits, no ads — in any of 8 languages. And the app reaches back too, running a free compensation check on flights from the last 3 years. That last part is the thing no ordinary tracker does: it checks whether each flight qualifies for compensation of up to €600, which is what sets it apart in our roundup of the best flight tracker apps.
You get live updates the moment they matter: gate changes, delays, cancellations, and even which carousel your bag is on. You can sync your inbox or calendar to pull in past and upcoming trips automatically, and share your journey so the people picking you up know exactly when to leave.
The part travelers love most? If a flight is delayed, canceled or overbooked, the app flags it automatically and — with AirHelp behind you — helps you claim the compensation you’re owed. If you want the details, here’s how flight delay compensation works, and what to do if your flight is canceled.

With this many journeys tracked, a clear picture of the typical AirHelp traveler starts to appear. This is where our users are flying and who they’re flying with — a snapshot of our own audience rather than the whole traveling world, but a telling one.
The top 5 | Destination airports | Airlines |
|---|---|---|
1 | Madrid | Ryanair |
2 | Paris (CDG) | Lufthansa |
3 | Amsterdam | Air France |
4 | Barcelona | Turkish Airlines |
5 | Frankfurt | Iberia |
A nice human detail: just over half of users (54%) track their own flight, while 46% are keeping an eye on someone else’s — a partner landing late, a friend on a long-haul, a parent’s connection. Tracking, it turns out, is a way of looking out for each other. 💙
We’ve introduced a lot since the app first launched:
Where’s my plane? — watch your aircraft on a map as it finishes its previous flight, so you know if it’s running late before the airline says so.
1-click claims — ask AirHelp to claim your compensation in a single tap.
Multiple mailboxes — we started with Gmail and now support Outlook and several inboxes and calendars at once.
Destination tips — top attractions and local pointers for where you’re headed.
8 languages — English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Dutch and Portuguese.
Here’s the part we’re most excited about. 1 in every 4 flights is delayed, and every year passengers waste almost 7 million hours waiting around. That time is worth a great deal — so soon, it’ll actually count for something.
We’re building a rewards scheme: when you track your flights with AirHelp, every minute you’re delayed will earn you rewards. We’re still shaping what those rewards will be — from things like eSIMs to free AirHelp+ trips — and we want our users to have a say.
Download before 28 June and you’ll get a vote on which rewards we include.
Download the AirHelp app on iOS or Android.
Sync your calendar or Email to import your past and upcoming trips automatically — you can also scan your boarding pass or type in the flight number.
Let it watch your back: live updates, and an automatic check for compensation of up to €600 if anything goes wrong.
A million travelers already fly a little smarter. Get the AirHelp app, get set for the rewards scheme, and cast your vote before 28 June.
Is the AirHelp app free?
Yes. It’s free to download and use — you can track your own flights, or those of your nearest and dearest, with no limit on how many you add, and run a free compensation check on flights from the last 3 years. There are only 2 places a cost comes in:
1: You can join over 12 million travelers and purchase an AirHelp+ membership for insurance protection on flights and luggage.
2: When you make a claim for up to €600 compensation with AirHelp, and we successfully secure your money from the airline, we deduct a standard 35% service fee. And if you don’t win? You pay nothing.
Top tip: AirHelp+ members pay ZERO service fees on compensation. They keep all the cash they’re owed.
Does it track any airline?
Yes — you can track any commercial flight worldwide. The easiest way to add one is to sync your calendar or inbox so the app imports your trips automatically; you can also scan your boarding pass or enter the flight number manually.
How does the automatic compensation check work?
The app monitors your flights and flags any that look eligible — typically delays, cancellations or overbooking. If a flight qualifies, you can ask AirHelp to handle the claim for compensation of up to €600, in just a few taps. You can read more about EU flight delay compensation and when it applies.
What is AirHelp+?
AirHelp+ is an optional membership that adds insurance for flight and baggage problems on top of the free tracking and compensation alerts — useful if you want faster payouts and extra protection when a trip goes wrong. You can compare the plans on the AirHelp+ membership page.
When does the rewards scheme launch, and how do I vote?
The rewards scheme is coming soon. Download the app to be ready for launch — and if you download before 28 June, you’ll get a vote on which rewards we include, from things like eSIMs to free AirHelp+ trips.
